It was a great start to 2017 when Parkinson’s Queensland was provided the opportunity to host the 12th Annual Meeting of the Genetic Epidemiology of Parkinson’s Disease Consortium (GEoPD). We saw an opportunity to bring together the world-leading scientists in the GEoPD, leading Australian researchers, Australia’s leading health professionals, the next generation of scientists, researchers and specialists, and people with Parkinson’s; and Expanding Possibilities was born.
Expanding Possibilities will showcase how innovative and successful Australian Parkinson’s researchers are, alongside some of the world’s leading Parkinson’s scientists. It is a huge honour for our team at Parkinson’s Queensland to be empowered to deliver to you such an important event and a chance for the Parkinson’s community in Australia to learn from the best in the business.
With this in mind, as part of the Expanding Possibilities Conference, Parkinson’s Queensland not only presents the GEoPD Consortium, but the Health Professionals Symposium and Parkinson’s Queensland Forum.
The full day Health Professionals Symposium will enable Australia’s leading specialists, nurses, allied health professionals and leading pharmaceutical suppliers to hear from and engage with leading scientists from Australia and around the world, along with other GEoPD delegates.
A special addition to the Health Professionals Symposium program is the James Parkinson Bicentenary Oration, “Parkinson’s Disease – Personalised, precision medicine from 20 years of genetic insight,” which will be presented by Professor Matthew Farrer, PhD (CSO of Neurocode, Department of Medical Genetics, University of British Columbia). To have such an eminent scientist presenting in Australia is a great compliment to scientific researchers in our country and Parkinson’s Queensland is proud to have the James Parkinson Bicentenary Oration at our event.
The Health Professionals Symposium will be followed by a half day program specifically for Parkinson’s Queensland members, support groups and all people with Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s Queensland firmly believes that our members are the soul of our organisation and this presents an opportunity for them and all people with Parkinson’s to hear directly from leading scientists and health professionals at the Parkinson’s Queensland Forum.
We look forward to welcoming scientists, health professionals and people with Parkinson’s from around Australia, and the world, to Expanding Possibilities 2017. As we say here at Parkinson’s Queensland, “we are all in this together.”
