Unity Walk
Sunday 12th September, Wynnum Esplanade Foreshore
Full information can be found at http://www.parkinsonsqldunitywalk.org.au
This event is inspired by the Parkinson’s Unity Walk, first held in Central Park, New York in 1994 to bring together all members of the extended Parkinson’s community to raise awareness and funds. Over the years it has grown in size and now raises substantial funds to support research into PD. In 1994 there were just 200 participants, but recent walks have had more than 10,000 participants raising over $US 1.8M in funds.
In 2010 we will be holding the Parkinson’s Queensland Unity Walk in Brisbane on the Wynnum Esplanade Foreshore, specifically along the walkway from Darling Point to the Breakwater (Wynnum Creek) and return, a distance of 4 km. You can take a short-cut at any point if this is too far. It is wheel-chair accessible and there are seats and drinking fountains along the way for you to rest and refresh if you wish.
If you register early it will cost just $25 to be part of the fun. Get your friends to sponsor you for the walk – details of registration and sponsorship are on the special event website.
The Darling Point Sea Scouts have kindly agreed to provide their facilities as a marshalling and registration point, and are putting on a breakfast sausage sizzle if you wish to fuel up before the walk. Bring the family for a fun outing that helps raise funds. Proceeds from the walk will be used for Parkinson’s research and the Parkinson’s support activities of PQI. All you need is to wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes, a hat and a bottle of water. The walk will be on, rain or shine.
