A leisurely, non-competitive 2km or 4km walk.

What will you receive?

All participants will receive a walk t-shirt, satchel and a team sign recognising their support of A Walk in the Park. It is your personal keepsake to remind you of this special event.

Where does your money go?

Every dollar raised by A Walk in the Park helps to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s by providing ongoing support, information and education. Your fundraising dollar will also advance research to search for a cure. Together, we can achieve our vision for a world without Parkinson’s.

The Course

map Start at New Farm Park (Soccer field end) and head along the walking paths (guided by our Event Marshalls) and boardwalks beside the Brisbane River. At the half-way mark (2km), all walkers will turn back and follow the boardwalks back to New Farm Park. The Walk is not a race, although there will be some keen walkers and runners wanting to improve their personal bests.Participants can walk the full 4km route or just walk the distance they are comfortable with. There are no hard and fast rules as to the distance you wish to walk. Just you being there and soaking up the atmosphere of the Parkinson’s community being together is what really counts!


Event day

First aid

St Johns Ambulance will be stationed close to the finish line. If you require medical assistance while out on the course, please notify the nearest course marshal and they will contact the appropriate personnel to assist you.

Water stations

All walkers should make sure they stay hydrated during this event and while participating in the Walk. There will also be water stations located at intervals along the 4km course.


There will be toilets available at at the New Farm Park Soccer Club House on the day of the event.

Pram and wheelchair access

The entire route (4km and a 2km short cut) is located on paved footpaths and boardwalk – so you don’t have to worry about crossing roads – and it’s wheelchair and stroller/pram accessible.


Our special photographers volunteer their time to take photos on the day – you will be able to view and download the photos on the Parkinson’s Queensland official Facebook page.


Main stage

Live entertainment, delegates and sponsors will be appearing / presenting on the main stage.

Kids Zone

A Walk in the Park includes lots of extra activities for kids and adults. These include jumping castles, face painting, balloon art, craft zone, and roving entertainers.


A variety of food options will be available on the day, including coffee carts and a sausage sizzle.

Public transport

New Farm Park is well serviced by public transport and we highly recommend catching a bus or ferry to the event if you’re able.

Car parking

There are a number of public car parking options located in close vicinity to the event at New Farm Park.

These include car parks in New Farm Park and in adjacent Sydney and Brunswick Streets.

Parkinson’s Queensland will have volunteer parking marshals on Brunswick Street manning a drop off zone – 10 mins maximum parking duration.

Media Release – A Walk in the Park 2015

A Walk in the Park is the major community fundraising event for Parkinson’s Queensland. This annual event provides a great opportunity for the community to come together to support, celebrate and remember every Queenslander living with Parkinson’s.

A Walk in the Park is an enjoyable outing for the whole family, including the pet dog. Join hundreds of people of all ages and abilities for a leisurely, non-competitive 4km or 2km walk along the picturesque Brisbane River.

New Farm Park is the hub of the pre and post walk activities with live music, free entertainment and fun activities for the kids, along with food stalls and sponsor marquees. It is a great occasion to catch up with friends and family and event meet some new people.

This year there will be satellite events across Queensland. Cairns, Gold Coast, Gympie, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville will be holding their own walks.

In Australia, every hour of every day, someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
